Founded with the mission and inspiration for providing a
positive place for kids, the Boys and Girls Club of McGehee,
Arkansas, opened in 1999. Its first home was downtown
in an old retail store. A couple of game tables and
arts and crafts supplies were the first activities for the
children.
Two years passed with local leaders and a board of directors
working hard to help secure a new home for the club and its
children. The hard work paid off in 2001 when the new
club opened its doors at 205 North Washington, across from
the elementary school. Now equipped with two computer
rooms, offices, bathrooms and locker rooms, snack room and
kitchen, and a full court gym, the club has expanded its
capabilities and capacity to serve the youth of McGehee and
the surrounding area in ways that are missing in this region
of the state. |
